Fall Back…

Yes, it’s that time of year again. It’s time for us to adjust our external clocks and receive an extra hour of sleep. This reminded us of a few other household things that tie in to the time change, and we wanted to share one of them with you now.

Smoke Detectors/Alarms – Whenever it’s time to change the clocks, it’s also time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and alarms.

Did you know that:

  • Approximately 33% of homes in America are not adequately protected with smoke detectors (NFPA);
  • The fatality rate in homes with one (1) working smoke detector is 45% lower than that in homes without working smoke detectors (NFPA); and
  • The four (4) most common reasons for non-functioning smoke detectors include: disconnected batteries, dead batteries, debris build-up or obstruction, and general failure due to age of detector. (CPSC)

It’s such an easy item to overlook, though staying on top of it can save your life. Therefore, this November 5th, when it comes time to change our clocks, you can bet you’ll also find us on a stepstool changing the batteries in and inspecting our smoke detectors. Won’t you do the same?
