Now that it’s September, many of us are getting back into routines and relishing the hint of cool air in the mornings. To celebrate this back-to-school spirit, I thought I’d walk you through a day in my life as CMFTO’s founder. It’s ever-changing work and no two days are the same, but what is constant is the joy I get from visiting with our happy clients. I hope that you and yours are enjoying this busy, special season! |
After I kicked off my day with a coffee, I made my way to Chicago’s Gold Coast, where I’m helping my clients Dave and Kitty Beecken refresh their co-op’s vestibule, living room, and dining room. On this particular day, we welcomed the first of many installments of new furniture into their home: a beautiful Kravet coffee table with red ottomans in a John Roselli print linen fabric to fit beneath and offer flexible seating; and a new set of dining room chairs—next, we will be selecting an upholstery fabric for the seats of these lovely chairs.
In this photo, I’m helping Dave and Kitty select just the right shade of paint for their vestibule’s console table. We’ve already added fresh wallpaper, and now we’ll continue the organic feeling with Benjamin Moore Terrapin Green strié paint on their console table.
Since this visit, we’ve added new lighting, a new rug, and some accent pieces in the living room. Stay tuned on Instagram to see how it all came together!
I’m usually happily driving all over Chicagoland to see clients, but today the stars aligned and I simply needed to walk a few blocks to see my next lovely client, Joan Goldstein. Joan is moving out of her longtime condo to an apartment at Trulee Evanston. (Her doorman even scolded me for “stealing” her away from his building, a sign of how well-loved she is!)
When I arrived, CMFTO team members were busy packing up Joan’s kitchen and dining room. After the team and I reviewed where a few of Joan’s existing pieces will fit in her new Trulee floor plan, we chatted with Joan about her lovely collages of memorabilia. It doesn’t feel like work when I’m spending time hearing about my client’s interesting lives.
After a break for lunch (a delicious fried chicken sandwich), I headed to South Loop Loft, one of our wonderful design resources for show-stopping vintage furniture and decorative items. I was on the hunt for a one-of-a-kind lamp for the Gold Coast co-op project.
I’m always inspired when browsing beautiful pieces like these at our design resources.
Thank you for coming along on this day-in-the-life snapshot! There was much more to this day, as there always is, but these highlights touch on my work’s mission and what makes my days so fulfilling: creating beautiful, functional spaces for our clients. |
